Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education is seeking relief Van Drivers for its Preschool in Kelston, Auckland. This role involves safely transporting learners between family homes and the Preschool during term time. You will be responsible for ensuring children arrive and depart safely while building trusting relationships with families and staff. This position is ideal for reliable, patient, and safety-conscious individuals who enjoy working with children and can maintain focus in busy traffic conditions. Hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 8:30am and 2:00pm to 3:00pm.

Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport learners between their homes and the Preschool according to scheduled times
- Maintain accurate records of incidents or issues during transit and report them to appropriate staff
- Develop strong, trusting relationships with learners, families, and Preschool staff
- Follow all road rules and health and safety regulations at all times
- Demonstrate a safe driving approach and adapt to traffic conditions while meeting timeframes
- Support the learners’ wellbeing by anticipating and managing behaviour calmly and effectively
- Communicate effectively with staff and families, providing timely updates as required
Qualifications
- Clean driver’s licence is essential
- Commitment to the health and safety of children in transit
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Strong communication skills and ability to form positive relationships with children and families
- Ability to anticipate and manage potential issues while maintaining focus on driving
- Understanding of Deaf culture and willingness to learn or apply New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL)
- Experience working with children, particularly in early childhood education, is advantageous but not required
